MOVSC - Safety is not Expensive it is PRICELESS!
Monthly "Smoking and Its Effects on Your Workfor
Featured speaker will be Stephanie Davis, Tobacco Prevention Project
Stephanie Davis is currently the Program Direction for the Tobacco Prevention Program at Selby General Hospital’s Memorial Health System Tobacco Prevention Program. The tobacco program began in 2003 and Stephanie has been working with the program since 2004. She worked previously with at –risk youth for many years in the community and these relationships have enabled her to provide the program connections within the community that she currently holds. Since she has worked with the program she has worked to develop free stop smoking and smokeless tobacco program around Washington County to assist individuals who wish to quit tobacco at no cost. These programs have expanded not only to the public to attend classes but have also included on-site cessation classes at local businesses for employees at no cost as well as assistance with businesses who are working to lower insurance and safety costs for employers by providing assistance in developing wellness programs for their employees. The program has worked with schools within Washington County to provide tobacco education, tobacco cessation, and alternatives to suspension with tobacco education programs. These schools have also worked with the program to refine and adopt their current 100% Tobacco-Free Campus Policies. Also within her time at Selby, Stephanie has developed, with the assistance of the nursing staff and administration ,a referral program for inpatients and outpatients at within Memorial Health Systems and local physician offices to provide education and free services for patients that use tobacco. We currently partner with many community organizations including the Right Path of Washington County, the Washington County Health Department, Wood County Health Department, and various other coalitions to promote services to our community. Stephanie is here today to discuss the benefits and the possibility of cost reductions for businesses who have facilities that may be effected by tobacco use. These costs include capital costs such as cleaning and safety related to tobacco use and lost time in some cases that may correlate with tobacco related illness.
