Monthly topic "Safety with Service Dogs - Featuring the Washington County Sheriff's Dept. K9 Unit"
Featured speaker: Deputy John T. Underwood II and his Service K9 "Quick".
The MOVSC members will learn capabilities of service dogs during this interactive and fun monthly safety meeting.
Deputy John T. Underwood II is a 1989 Graduate of Belpre High School. 1992 Graduate of Hocking College in Nelsonville with an Associates Degree in Police Science. Started with the Sheriff's Office in September of 1992 as Deputy Sheriff assigned to the Criminal Division Road Patrol. He has been part of the Sheriff's Office, "Special Response Team" since 1994 and a Firearms Instructor since 1996. Underwood is currently the Sniper Team Leader on the Special Response Team. He has been a K9 Handler since October of 2012. Underwood's K9 Partner is a 4 year old Long Haired German Sheppard named "Quick." Quick is from Czechoslovakia. He came to the United States in June of 2012. After being selected for the Sheriff's Office he underwent four weeks of pre training by himself then six weeks of training with . Quick and Dep. Underwood are State and Nationally Certified as a Dual Purpose K9 Team. The Dual Purpose designation means that he is Narcotics Detection and Patrol Work Certified.

About the Mid-Ohio Valley Safety Council
The Mid-Ohio Valley Safety Council is a program of the Marietta Area Chamber of Commerce, co-sponsored by The Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation Division of Safety & Hygiene.
Purpose
It takes concern and dedication to instill an awareness of worker safety. The MOV Safety Council strives to provide increased safety awareness through the combined efforts of companies and the community at large.
Safety Council Goals
- To provide a forum for businesses and industries interested in occupational safety and health.
- To examine and resolve potential and existing safety and health problems.
- To Inform participants of new safety and health techniques, products and services and to provide a thorough knowledge of these services.
- To encourage safety programs through a Safety Campaign.
Membership to Safety Council is open to representatives of business and industry in the Mid-Ohio Valley interested in developing increased safety awareness. The annual membership fee is $50 per company.
Luncheons are held with presentations on a wide variety of safety subjects as requested by the membership. Safety Council meets monthly, usually on the third Wednesday of each month.

MOVSC Meetings are held at the Marietta Shrine Club on the Third Wednesday of each month. The Marietta Shrine Club is located at 249 Pennsylvania Avenue, Marietta, OH.

Cost: $15 and includes lunch
