Identity Theft is a term that only a few years ago was only discussed in certain circles. Identity theft is now commonplace and a part of our daily lives. There are now deeper implications and impacts of having your identity stolen that can cause a myriad of negative impacts on your life.
This presentation will define the different types of identity theft, how they are perpetrated, who are the individuals that conduct these activities along with their different motivations. We will discuss how identity theft is accomplished and some ways that you can protect yourself from becoming a victim.

Mr. Brown has over 30 years experience focused on information security and privacy. Positions held include VP, Professional Services, Corporate Information Security Officer, Security Strategist, Managing Consultant, Solutions Architect and Senior Security Engineer. In these positions Mr. Brown has provided and Information Security Services for some of the leading enterprises in the Financial, Utilities, Telecommunications, Retail, Health Care, Pharmaceuticals and Entertainment industries.
Experience
Mr. Brown has a long history of solving the business and information security needs of a wide range of clients from Fortune 50 accounts to small businesses. Areas of expertise include security program design and review, incident management planning and response including litigation hold (e-discovery), security and privacy policy and process development, vulnerability assessment, application development security, security technology implementation and training.
Some notable accomplishments include:
- Developed and tested an information incident response program for a top 10 financial institution.
- Led a team of consultants throughout a project that reviewed the technical, administrative and physical security posture of a pharmaceutical manufacture and testing organization.
- Conducted an application development process review for security implications that resulted in a significant reduction in vulnerability exposures.
- Designed and enhanced security perimeter and countermeasures for an online banking environment.
- Developed security policies, processes and standards for server and system hardening and rollout.
- Deployed flexible and scalable remote access technology for a leading telecommunications carrier that included role based access and remote host validation.
- Reviewed security program documentation and processes for compliance with Payment Card Industry (PCI) requirements and conformance with ISO 27002 standards.
- Created standards and requirements documentation for content management and filtering project including social networking site controls.
