Mental Health First Aid is an 8-hour course that gives people the skills to help someone who is developing a behavioral health problem or experiencing a behavioral health crisis. The evidence behind the program demonstrates that it does build mental health literacy, helping the public identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illness. Mental Health First Aid is intended for all people and organizations that make up the fabric of a community. It is not intended to provide intensive and complex psychiatric education, but rather common sense, man-on-the-street information to prepare you to help a person in crisis until professional help can be accessed. Class participants who successfully complete the course will receive MHFA certification for three years and a Mental Health First Aid manual.
